Tips for Security on your Mission Trip
•Place all valuables in the hotel safety deposit box.
•Lock your luggage when not in use and place it in the closet. If the closet has a lock – use it.
•Lock every device on your door any time you are in your motel room. Lock your door by hand – even if leaving your room for only a short period of time. Try to open the door to make sure it is locked.
•If you plan for a long evening out, turn on a light in the motel room, leave the TV or radio playing softly, and place the “DO NOT DISTURB” sign on the door.
•Protect your room key. Be sure to give it directly to the desk clerk when leaving the motel. Never leave it on the counter.
•Notify the manager of any unusual occurrences, such as: persons loitering in the corridor, repeated phone calls from persons who do not identify themselves, knocks and no one answers when asked “Who is there?”
•Never invite strangers into your room.
•Never permit repairmen, window washers, etc. into your room without first checking with hotel management.
•Never respond to random knocks on your door without knowing who it is.
•Never allow persons in your room with unsolicited deliveries.
•Never reveal your motel name, room number, or future plans to strangers
•Carry as little cash as is necessary. Use credit cards or travelers checks where possible. Be aware that some countries limit the use of them, some countries require extra payment to use them and some countries refuse to use them at all.
•Keep your wallet in an inside coat or front pants pocket, never in a back pocket.
•DO NOT flash large amounts of cash.
•Leave expensive jewelry at home.
•When entering a security checkpoint at the airport, watch your carry-on luggage at all times. Many an unwary traveler has lost their valuables at these checkpoints.
•LOOK ALERT!! – Even if you are lost and confused. Criminals pick victims who are off guard Be careful what you say in the presence of strangers.
