HSM has been working in Chiquimula, Guatemala since 2004. Each March since then HSM teams have conducted primary and surgical eye care missions. The primary eye care teams have been led by Dr. George Rooney and have included students from the Indiana University College of Optometry. Dr. Rooney’s teams have provided eye exams and glasses to thousands of patients in the Chiquimula area. Dr.s Mark Henry and Dan Robinson have led the surgical teams and have performed several hundred eye surgical procedures at the Chiquimula Hospital. HSM teams have worked with Guatemala Ophthalmologist, Dr. Luis Molina. HSM has partnered with Global Missions of Mercy headed by Mrs. Serita Carson.
General medical care and dental care have also been done here.
The Chiquimula Mission provides a great opportunity for volunteers to participate in a busy short term mission. Nearly one hundred individuals have taken part in this mission since its inception. Contact HSM for more information.
